PHOTO OF THE WEEK: 30 July 2012

Escalating war is taking an increasing toll on Syrian children and their families. By late July, deaths had surpassed 17,000, up to 1 million people had been internally displaced, and over 120,000 refugees – half of them children – had fled to neighbouring countries. UNICEF supports initiatives in education, water, sanitation and hygiene and child protection, but needs continue to mount.

Here…Syrians attempt to cross the border to take refuge in Turkey.
