Who I Follow

A Child’s View - A portion of a rice field is visible in the town of Pikit in North Cotabato Province, Philippines. This photograph was taken by Sittie Monabe Maongko, 13. “I’m happy because I took a picture with good lines [that] repeats elements,” she said. Sittie is one of 15 children who participated in a UNICEF-organized photography workshop for children affected by conflict on Mindanao Island.

UNICEF photographer Giacomo Pirozzi, who led the workshop, asked students to use the camera to express their views on the themes of poverty, survival, the environment, victims of war and peace-building efforts. After completing their assignments, the children edited their work and an exhibition was held at the university. On Mindanao Island, UNICEF Philippines supports projects that amplify children’s voices on issues that affect their lives, particularly on peace-building and conflict resolution.
