In Zambia, an HIV-positive woman and her son participate in a PMTCT programme.

With a 16 per cent HIV prevalence rate among adults, Zambia remains at the vortex of the AIDS epidemic. Still, it has made great strides, including in preventing mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of the virus. The XIX International AIDS Conference, held 22–27 July 2012 in Washington, D.C., the United States of America, emphasizes the world’s capacity to end the epidemic.
