UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.

Who I Follow

Facing the battery of press cameras at the reception at United Nations Headquarters are: (left-right) British television broadcaster David Frost; Fleetwood Mac band members Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks - composer of the donated song; UN Assistant Secretary-General and IYC Special Representative Dr. Estefania Aldaba-Lim, who presented the citation; and UNICEF Information Director Jack Ling. Banners bearing the UNICEF logo are on a wall behind them.

In November 1979, representatives from the United Nations International Year of the Child (IYC) Secretariat and from UNICEF presented British rock band Fleetwood Mac with a special citation for donating their song ‘Beautiful Child’ to the ‘Music for UNICEF’ copyright gift programme, during a reception at United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ). Royalties from songs donated to the programme help to support UNICEF’s work for children in more than 100 countries around the world.
