On 10 December 1965 in Norway, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to UNICEF at the University of Oslo in Oslo, the capital. Henry R. Labouisse (left), who had recenlty become UNICEF’s second Executive Director (1965-1979), accepted the gold Nobel medal and scroll.

The citation awarding the prize stated that “…UNICEF has proved that compassion knows no boundaries. Aid is given to all children without any distinction of race, creed, nationality, or political conviction…”
